Creative Soundscapes with Margaret Soraya

Mark Cornick - Outdoor and abstract photographer

Margaret Soraya Episode 26

Although based in Surrey, Mark currently photographs the UK coastline producing truly stunning  images.

A successful amateur photographer for the past 10 years, he has for the last 2-3 years been concentrating on creating abstract seascapes, colour photography and coastal images using techniques of ICM and multiple exposure. He explains how he balances 1 day per week for photography whilst holding down a full-time job in broadcasting.  Add to this mix family life with a small child and you can see why his story is captivating!

Project management and organisation is key to Mark.  We chat about how he finds it essential to plan a structure for his photography rather than leaving to luck.  He encourages all to have a plan and build a body of work which could then, for instance, be taken forward in the form of an exhibition or a book.  Finding your style is at the heart of this.

Mark's passion for ICM is obvious from the joy and enthusiasm you hear in his voice when describing the process he uses. Listen in to hear how he created his really beautiful abstract seascapes Leviathans (Isle of Wight) and Fathom (Cornish Coast).

An equally talented urban photographer he says he is, for the moment, developing his passion for abstract seascapes and has learned to just, once again, enjoy the experience of photographing - a trip is not wasted if there is not a memory card full of great images at the end of a shoot!
